Lionsgate has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for The Expendables 2. The new film has Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and his gang of mercenaries out for revenge, and also having to deal with a baddie (Jean-Claude Van Damme) who wants some weapons-grade plutonium. This featurette isn’t going to change anyone’s anticipation for the flick one way or the other, but I do like the emphasis on practical effects and trying to offer a break from CGI-heavy action (although you will also notice green screens in this featurette).
Hit the jump to check out the featurette. The film also stars Jason Statham, Yu Nan, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Expendables 2 opens on August 17th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Expendables 2:
The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal… Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time – six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way….
‘THE EXPENDABLES 2′ FIRST NSFW CLIP
One of the summer’s most anticipated films is ‘The Expendables 2.’ Even if the first film was heavily flawed, this time they’ve added Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme into mix (along with others), and it offers extended roles for Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Here’s the first look at the film, with action from Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham.
This clip comes from Ain’t it Cool News, who have a long-standing relationship with Stallone at this point, and it’s likely they will have a question and answer session with the star before the film comes out August 17.
The footage shows Stallone and Statham in heat of action, and offers Liam Hemsworth stuck in the bush working as a sniper. Stallone gets to be the hero of the moment, and it’s an okay action beat. Just okay, though.
Honestly, the first film was not very good, though it had the great idea of assembling some of the greatest badasses in modern cinema history. This time they’ve loaded the film with even more great butt-kickers, and that gets us interested. This footage excites us only so much, but we hope for great things from “Also Van Damme” as the villain fighting these guys.

Lionsgate has unveiled abrand new TV spot for “The Expendables 2,” starring Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, and Yu Nan. Check it out below.
Plot: Church reunites the Expendables for what should be an easypaycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat.
The new movie is directed by Simon West (Con Air) and is set to hit theaters on August 17th.
‘The Expendables 2‘ trailer was just pure explosive fun with the Jason Statham, Chuck Norris, Stallone crew, so here’s a huge bunch of hi-res images so you can see all that intense action a little more close up.
Yup, ‘The Expendables 2‘ trailer finally arrived last week, and it’s got those bad lines that can make you cringe a little as expected, but it delivers on fire power, guns, fights and people being thrown through the air. Plotwise, it definitely seems rather thin, and trying to figure out why Jean Claude Van Damme needs plutonium (you wonder if he really knows what it does) when he goes into fight mode with Sylvester Stallone. Who needs fire power when you still kick in the air like that? Jason Statham makes a fine looking monk, but his “I now pronounce you man and knife” comment definitely made me wince. NaturallyArnold Schwarzenegger had to get in his “I’m back” line, but the scene where he rips the door off that puny little car Bruce Willis is driving did make me chuckle at least.
The face that the marketing on this film has been pretty lackluster until still makes me wonder how it’ll wind up playing on the big screen. I’m hoping it’s as fun as the first round although many didn’t seem to like it as much as I did. When any film can bring together all those action stars from the day, I’ll watch it no matter what. This trailer has Stallone introing it, but he’s no Terry Crews.
